Mission
Religion is now one of the most important topics of news —the abuse of religion to justify violence challenges all people of faith globally. The need to understand different beliefs is more important than ever! Our survival depends on it. The InterFaith Speakers Bureau (IFSB) introduces a variety of speakers and scholars who can offer a basic education in what various religions and faiths believe and practice. Understanding each other is not only a valuable way to practice the Golden Rule found in every religion, but also is essential to living together in our multi-faith global village. Learning about ways people of different religions/spiritual beliefs can work together is critical to solving problems in communities, in the workplace, and in national and global arenas. The IFSB is well-equipped with leading members of a variety of religious/spiritual communities, primarily in the Washington metropolitan area. We can provide keynote speakers, panelists, and workshop leaders. The IFSB will customize spea king engagements to meet the needs of attendees at your event and open the channels of communication for faiths found across the globe. The opportunity to better understand the multi-cultural community we live and work in and the ways we can come together to really “make a difference” is waiting for each of us.
About US
The InterFaith Speakers Bureau unites two dynamic non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations, the InterFaith Conference Center of Metropolitan Washington (IFC) and The Du Plain Enterprises Foundation. In collaboration, they launched the InterFaith Speakers Bureau to communicate the common interest and goals of contemporary America—inter-religious respect and appreciation of our differences and the shared commitment to work together to make our country the best it can be. Combined, both organizations have nearly forty (40) years experience in interfaith/spiritual education, public relations and social awareness. Founded in 1978, The InterFaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington brings together the Baha'i, Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, Jain, Jewish, Latter-day Saints, Protestant, Roman Catholic, Sikh and Zoroastrian faith communities in the national capital region to promote dialogue, understanding and a sense of community among persons of different faiths and to work cooperatively for social and economic justice. World Bank president James Wolfenson, US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, and Deepak Chopra, esteemed leader in mind-body medicine are examples of the diverse speakers honored at popular IFC programs. Since 1996, the Du Plain International Speakers Bureau has offered outstanding workshops, panels, and keynote addresses to the public throughout the United States and Canada. Among the many successful programs is the Daniel Pearl Dialogue for Muslim-Jewish Understanding featuring Dr. Akbar Ahmed, “the world’s leading authority on contemporary Islam,”* and Dr. Judea Pearl, father of slain Wall Street Journal reporter, Daniel Pearl. Through outstanding speakers, The Du Plain Enterprises Foundation advances these programs and strengthens interfaith/spiritual education and cross-cultural programs for the public. *Quote from BBC TV Topics - Islam in the African-American experience - Women in interfaith ministry - The interfaith call to social justice - The birth of the interfaith movement - Why interfaith understanding and collaboration are essential for our future - How far should religious freedom go? - Religion & Law - Opening interfaith doors for youth and young adults - East meets West: Buddhist-Christian dialogue - Cooperation among Jewish and African American Youth - Green theology: Care for creation - Bridge building among cultures and religions - Christian-Muslim relations - World Religions 101 - Is there a clash of civilizations? - Islam in the 21st century - Interfaith on the move: Yoga and Zen meditation - The discovery of one’s religious roots Testimonials “This is the most religiously diverse nation in the entire history of humankind – a harbinger of the pluralistic racial, ethnic, religious and cultural world that will mark the coming era.
